Windows 95 Setup

(Note: if your computer is connected to a LAN, some of these settings may not be appropriate. You should consult with your Network Administrator before making changes.)

Step 1.

  1. Press the Start button, select Settings..., then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
  3. Select the Windows Setup tab, then click on the Communications option and press Details.
  4. Make sure that the Dial-up Networking option is selected. If it is, go on to step 2. If it isn't, select it and click OK. Windows 95 will attempt to install the needed drivers, so make sure you've got your installation disks or CD handy! Now that Dial-up Networking is installed, you Can proceed to step 2.

Step 2.
  1. Press the Start button, select Settings..., then Control Panel.
  2. Double-click the Network icon. You'll see a dialog box like the one below. Make sure the Configuration tab is selected. Both Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP should be present (as in the picture), then you're ready to proceed to step 3.
  3. To add the Dial-Up Adapter, hit the Add... button, double-click Adapter, then scroll down the list until you can select Microsoft. Choose the Dial-Up Adapter and hit OK.
  4. If you need to install TCP/IP, hit the Add... button, double-click Protocol, then select Microsoft, then TCP/IP, and hit OK.
  5. Now your Network dialog box should contain both Dial-Up Adapter and TCP/IP. Select the adapter, click Properties..., Bindings, and make sure the TCP/IP box is checked. You're now ready to proceed to step 3.

Step 3.

If you have not already opened the TCP/IP Properties windows, click on the TCP/IP icon in the Network window. Make sure IP Address is set to "Obtain an IP Address automatically" as in the picture.

 

Step 4. Make sure that gateway is blank

 

Step 5. Make sure DNS is disabled

 

Step 6.

  1. Skip NetBIOS
  2. Skip Advanced
  3. Skip Bindings
  4. Hit OK at the bottom of the window, this will return you to the Network window
  5. Hit OK at the bottom of the Network window
  6. After Windows95 is finished copying files it will ask you to reboot your computer
  7. After your computer has rebooted proceed to Step 7

Step 7.
  1. Double click on the My Computer icon, which is located in the top left corner of your screen
  2. Double click on Dial-Up Networking
  3. When the Welcome to Dial-Up Networking window appears, hit Next

Step 8.
  1. In Type a name for the computer you are dialing enter ATXL
  2. Select your modem
  3. Click Next

Step 9.

  1. In Area Code type 804
  2. In the next box, type 817-2895
  3. Leave Country code alone
  4. Click on Next twice then click on finish
  5. Right click on the ATXL icon, click Properties.
  6. Select the Server Tab.
  7. Uncheck the 'Log on to Network' checkbox
  8. Right click on the ATXL icon, hold and drag it to your desktop and release, create a shortcut

That's it! Your computer is ready!
